Obama: San Gabriel Mountains designation a “social justice issue”

On October 10, 2014, President Obama delivered remarks at the Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, California to designate the San Gabriel Mountains as a national monument.

“What makes this particular designation so important: we heard from the community. For a lot of urban families this is their only big outdoor space. Too many children in LA County, especially children of color, don’t have access to parks where they can run free, and breath fresh air, experience nature, and learn about their environment.” - President Barack Obama
